A tip for those who aren’t a big fan of the spicy black bean soup recipe, can tone down a bit of the spice, and add a dash of creme fresh at the end.
PREPERATION TIME: 5 Minutes
READY AFTER: 6 Hours & 5 Minutes
INGREDIENTS ARE:
1 pound dry black beans… soaked overnight.
4 teaspoons diced jalapeno peppers.
3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper.
1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce.
6 cups chicken broth.
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper.
Chili
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder.
1 tablespoon chili powder.
1 teaspoon ground cumin.
Note that this soup is very spicy, and it’s up to you if you want to add more or less. Personally, I love the soup as it is.
DIRECTIONS:
Drain the black beans, and rinse..
Combine beans, jalapenos or red chili, and chicken broth in a slow cooker. Season with garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, cayenne, pepper, and hot pepper sauce…
Cook on high for 4 hours. Reduce heat to Low, and continue cooking for 2 hours, then you are ready to eat…
Should you like it even more hot… just try to add 1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce.

6 cloves garlic.
2 med. onions, minced.
Black Bean Soup
2 tbsp. olive oil.
1 lb. blackbeans.
2 tsp. ground cumin.
1 fresh bay leaf.
1 ham hock.
3 tbsp. savory minced.
1 lb. hot Italian sausage, cooked & drained.
1 bell pepper, chopped.
In a large pot, saute garlic and onions in organic olive oil. Add ham, black beans, cumin, bay leaf, 1 tablespoon savory and 3 quarts water, season with cayenne or Piri Piri, salt and pepper… Cook uncovered over medium heat for 2 hours.Then remove bay leaf and ham..
Blend soup in food processor until smooth.. Return to pot. Remove meat from ham and add to soup along with remaining savory, sausage and bell pepper. Simmer 30 minutes. Serve with sour cream and sherry.
Quick tip:
Beans made from scratch have better flavor, but the cooking can take hours. Canned beans are a very good alternative, if you rinse and drain them well.

1/2 Cup Water.
Black Bean Soup
2 Cloves Garlic, Crushed.
2 lb Canned Black Beans. (Turtle Beans)
11/8 tsp Fresh Ground Pepper.
1/3 Cup Oil.
1 Cup Sliced Leeks.
Sauté the leeks in the oil in a saucepan until it gets golden.
Add some garlic and half the beans with their liquid. Mash the beans with a fork or soething related….. The important thing is that the black beans get smashed really well. Then add the rest of the beans with their liquid but do not mash this time.
Stir in the water, salt, pepper, hint of red onion and simmer, covered, for 40-45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve hot.
